1938 STOCK
TUBE TOURS
Ever
wanted to take a step back in time? Well thanks to some
London Underground apprentices working alongside the London
Transport Museum, now's your chance! They are giving you the
chance to step aboard a heritage London Transport '1938
Stock' tube train and travel over former Bakerloo and
current Jubilee line tracks into the now-disused Jubilee
line platforms at Charing Cross. There's also the
opportunity to travel over parts of the Piccadilly and
Metropolitan lines.
The reason for
this event is so that in 2008 London Underground's
'Operational Apprentices' can travel to Eskdale, Cumbria, to
carry out restoration work in aid of the Outward Bound Trust
- an educational charity that inspires young people to
fulfil their potential through challenging outdoor
experiences, raising self-esteem and preparing them to face
the future with confidence. In addition to raising money for
the apprentices to visit Eskdale, the event will help raise
public awareness of the Outward Bound Trust, the Operational
Apprentice Scheme and the work of the London Transport
Museum (who own, lovingly restored and operate the heritage
tube train).
Three trips will
take place on Sunday 16th September and each will
include the former Bakerloo line from Stanmore and/or
Wembley Park, and the disused branch of the Jubilee line
into Charing Cross. Tickets are being sold on a
first-come-first-serve basis and prices can be found below,
